Wound Care

Importance of Wound Care & Diabetic Wound Care

Detail your services

Wound Care is an essential service provided by Feet First typically on a weekly basis to ensure the closure and healing of acute and chronic wounds stemming from diabetes, peripheral vascular disease, lymphedema and other severe illnesses. Wound care is especially important because most wounds can be more dangerous than some cancers, especially untreated wounds. Dr. Williamson treat your wound in office or at the Wound Care Center at Shore Medical Center , depending on the severity  to ensure the quick and adequate closure of wounds and alterations from legs to toes. Modalities such as allografts, compression wrappings, ointment, debridement and multiple other modalities are used to ensure quick and adequate healing of wounds of all types.

The goals of treatment are to:

  • Heal the wound
  • Relieve pain
  • Regain a high quality of life
  • Keep the wound from returning. This is very important as up to 30 percent of patients with diabetes will develop recurrent wounds.
